Panzers and Shit

The new Valentino’s, as I have now discovered, is over by the new complex in Stoney Creek by the new movie theatre. It closed down by my place a while back and now figured it was gone for good. (well… Besides the Westdale location) so I was happy to find that it had stuck itself into this new complex.

I was invited out for dinner with my friend and her family so I gladly took the opportunity to check out their new spot. The new building is much flashier than the previous location. Very new, fresh, and modern. Although it didn’t quite suit Valentino’s, it was still a cool environment. Low lighting, private booths, accent walls, etc. We were set up in the back room because we were a party of six. The room we were in was walled with windows on one side, an accent wall on the far wall, and two pillars of glass ‘wine walls’ filled with various bottles.

We ordered some calamari for the table and I ordered a glass of Malbec to start. They brought out bread sticks to start the table off. Admittedly, they seemed like they were par-baked and they were already cold. Kind of a let down really. Bread sticks are a really easy thing to nail to really get people stoked for their meal. Whateves. Next came the Calamari. They were decent enough. Lightly breaded, served with some super tangy seafood sauce. Not really my cup of tea but I tried a good few.

Finally, the Panzers rolled across the table. So stoked. I got italian sausage, rapini, and green peppers and it was delicious. They serve their panzers with a side of tomato sauce to dip or pour or do something with. They went a little heavy on the peppers and a little light on the sausage, but all in all it was enjoyable.

I used to get Valentino’s all the time with my family; it was the only place my mom would order pizza from. They used good ingredients and and it was definitely reasonable. I feel like since those days, they’ve gone down in quality and up in price. I suppose a high-profile relocation does cost a fair bit, but I don’t think the food should suffer.

I think that if you’re taking some family out for dinner and you’re looking for a restaurant to go appetizer, entree, dessert and drinks on, this would be a good nominee. If you’re looking for a quick, delicious bite, maybe it’s best to head elsewhere.

Cheers,

Klyver

  1. The bread with the soup looks so good! I’ve actually just started a food blog, just writing wee things about dining out in places in Glasgow. Things have been tough for me over the last few years but food is something that has always brought me comfort (not necessarily a good thing hahaha). Would love it if you were interested and wanted to have a look or give me a follow, it would mean a lot!
